Instructions for use

The HSI merges the heading indicator and the VOR into one picture. The compass card is slaved to your heading (heading under the top lubber), and the cyan course arrow is set to your selected course — so it always points to where that course lies relative to your nose.

Reading it

The course-deviation bar rides across the middle of the course arrow. Centre it to be on course; each dot is 5°.
Because the picture is oriented to your heading, a left deflection always means “course is to your left” — turn toward the bar to intercept.
The TO/FROM triangle sits on the arrow; NAV appears over the station.

Try this

Set a course, press Fly, and turn until the bar centres — notice how much more intuitive intercepts are than on a raw VOR.
Use Centre · TO to drop the course onto the inbound track to the station.
